Educational Philosophy

First Grade Home

Dear Parents and Prospective Parents,
The educational philosophy in first grade is that the teacher’s role is to facilitate learning by addressing the standards, providing the resources, and the opportunity to practice skills in authentic situations. With guidance, the students become self-directed learners in an environment where it is okay to ask questions, take risks and make mistakes. Teachers employ multiple methodologies to address a variety of learning styles to support the development of both academic and social skills. Hands-on activities and fun are incorporated into all learning opportunities. The learning is personalized so that students at every level demonstrate growth. Multiple assessments are administered to determine students’ individual needs, as well as provide direction for future instruction. Instruction is delivered as both whole-group and small groups. Students are grouped based on both needs and interests.  The groupings are flexible and change often to develop leadership and collaboration. Effective communication both oral and written is emphasized with cross-curricular projects and performances. Keith Country Day School operates as a community of learners; the administrators, the teachers, the parents and community members work together to create the highest-quality education for the children.

We strive to provide the best educational opportunities for our students and our goal is to develop their analytical and problem solving skills. We feel privileged to work with our young students and look forward to a very productive year. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

Warmest regards,
Mrs. Hanley and Mrs. Bahmanyar
