Make a Blanket Together

Each full-day child will need to bring a small blanket and pillow to school for rest time.  These will be kept in the classroom cubbies. Please follow the directions for making a fleece blanket with your child.  These blankets are easy to fold and fit perfectly into cubbies.  They are also easy to carry home for washings.  You can find little travel pillows at most department stores, K-Mart, WalMart, Target, etc. Enjoy this fun project!

Materials:

1 ½ yards of 60” fleece

scissors

ruler

(Joann Fabrics, Wal-mart

Cut fringe around the edges of  fabric  3 1/2" deep at 1" intervals..  Stretch and tie a knot in each strip close to the blanket.

  1. Lay fleece out flat on floor or table.
  2. Straighten raw edges by placing the cutting mat underneath one end. Use the ruler as a guide and trim off any uneven, crooked edges as well as the selvages.
  3. On each end, measure and mark 3 ½”  from the raw edges at 1”  intervals. This will be your guide for creating your fringe.
  4. To create fringe, snip the raw edges at the 1”  intervals up to the 3 ½”  marks.
  5. TIP: You can use your fingertip as a rough guide for spacing. Also, long, smooth cuts give a cleaner look. Repeat for other raw edge.
