Dear Families of K-3 Students,

My name is Laura Kurich and I graduated from Lindenwood University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.  I am very excited to be teaching K-3 students as part of the rigorous Keith curriculum.  I love being able to influence the minds of our future, no matter how young they may be.

It is very important that students enter a very welcoming and uplifting classroom as they begin their school day.  I believe that an enriching start to each school day will help determine the behaviors, moods, and readiness for learning throughout the entire school day.  Welcoming each student with a smile and personal greeting is how I prepare each of them for a day of learning.

K-3 is a very important developmental time for children.  They are 231beginning to learn from their environment, their peers, and their curiosity.  The K-3 classroom is where students are able to learn through structured academic lessons, but also through their own exploration of the entire school environment.

At a young age, it is important for children to learn to love learning and school.  As a K-3 teacher, it is my job to not only teach your child how to read, write, critically think, count, add, and subtract, but to also love coming to school and learning new information.  Curiosity, I believe, is the best trait a person can obtain.  In my classroom I encourage students to ask questions, explore how everything works, use their imagination, and to have open minds.  The best way to learn is to have fun while engaging in the learning process.

As hard as it will be to say “goodbye” and send my students to K-4, my hope for them is to look back on their year in K-3 and remember that learning was deeply fun!
