Karen Winkelmann

1st Grade Teacher
Elementary School

Mrs. Winkelmann believes first grade is a year of incredible growth, where students build confidence as readers, writers, problem-solvers, and independent learners. She is passionate about creating a classroom where every child feels supported, encouraged, and excited to discover something new each day.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Saint Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota, and holds Illinois teaching certifications in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Throughout her career, she has taught kindergarten through third grade in both Catholic and public school settings, giving her more than two decades of experience helping young students develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Mrs. Winkelman completed her student teaching in a second-grade classroom and most recently taught first and third grades at All Saints Catholic Academy. There, she provided both whole-group and individualized instruction tailored to each student’s learning needs.

Mrs. Winkelmann believes strong relationships are the foundation of meaningful learning. She strives to create a classroom where curiosity is encouraged, challenges become opportunities to grow, and every student feels known, valued and capable of success.

Outside the classroom, she has been actively involved in youth leadership and community service through Scouting America, serving in a variety of volunteer leadership roles including committee member, fundraiser chair and den leader. She enjoys supporting young people both inside and outside the classroom and values the lifelong lessons that come from teamwork, service, and leadership.
